Summer House Atelier

Artisan beeswax candles, inspired by beekeeping with my father in the Kentish countryside.

I love to design products that spark joy and kindness. In lockdown I found myself drawn to things that reminded me of my childhood and my father who is a beekeeper and my mother who is a potter. This led me to explore beeswax and clay for fun.

I was asked by friends and family if they could have candles and before I knew it I was hosting candle workshops and selling things in a Christmas market. Working with beeswax is so satisfying. I love how it smells and how it naturally becomes a very mindful meditative process melting or rolling the wax.

I always use local beeswax from hives that do not use any harmful chemicals. This wonderfully sweet-smelling material, burns with a warm orange glow, refreshing the air and creating a ‘hyggeligt’ atmosphere, perfect for the colder months and Christmas.

This is part of my philosophy to create things that bring joy, without harming the environment (or bees) and supporting the local community around me. You can find out more on my Instagram page @SummerHouseAtelier
